Green Party MEP Caroline Lucas has demanded that
McDonalds, the fast food chain encourage its customers to use
"healthy, non-polluting forms of transport after Southsea
cyclist Charles Burns was turned away from a McDonald's
drive-through restaurant in Portsmouth allegedly because his
bicycle did not have an engine. In response McDonald's appear
unrepentant. To serve a customer on a bicycle would be
unsafe. To rub salt in the wound, the restaurant in question
is next to a designated cycle path.
